Honoring Achievements, Advancing Partnerships, and Charting the Future of Engineering Education

The International Engineering and Technology University (METU) welcomed a distinguished guest — Professor Bakytzhan Tursynovich Zhumagulov, President of the National Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan — for a high-level meeting that reinforced the institution’s dedication to academic excellence, innovation, and national scientific progress. The visit also served as a ceremonial occasion to commemorate Republic Day and recognize faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to education and research in Kazakhstan.

From Strategic Dialogue to Institutional Recognition

During the meeting, Rector Gulnar Sarsenbekova provided an overview of METU’s academic progress and institutional development, highlighting insights and key messages from the recently held CONNECTED 2024 international conference in Astana. These reflections underscored METU’s active role in the regional academic landscape and its efforts to align educational programs with technological and societal needs.

In a special address, President Zhumagulov acknowledged METU’s achievements and expressed continued support for future collaboration between the National Engineering Academy and METU, particularly in the areas of joint research, faculty development, and national engineering priorities.

Honoring Scientific Leadership and Educational Impact

A highlight of the gathering was the official award ceremony, during which distinguished faculty members received medals of recognition for their contributions to science, education, and engineering. Conferred by Decree №167 of the Academy Presidium, these honors celebrated individuals whose work has elevated METU’s academic standing and national relevance.

Award recipients included:

  • Prof. Altynai Burkhatovna Abuova, Department of Food Production Technology – recognized for leadership in agricultural science and academic research;
  • Assoc. Prof. Zhuldyz Tursynovna Dildebayeva, Head of the Economics and Business Department – acknowledged for advancing economic sciences and higher education;
  • Assoc. Prof. Elena Vladimirovna Solodova, Head of the Biochemical Engineering Department – honored for achievements in biological sciences and academic leadership.

This recognition not only celebrated individual success, but also affirmed METU’s broader commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and public service.

Building Momentum for National and Scientific Development

The event brought together university leadership, faculty, researchers, students, and representatives of the National Engineering Academy, creating a space for open dialogue, institutional reflection, and professional inspiration. Attendees engaged in thoughtful discussion about how engineering education and scientific research can respond to contemporary challenges while positioning Kazakhstan for future success in the global innovation ecosystem.

Participants praised the transparent and forward-looking agenda, emphasizing the importance of:

  • Continued collaboration between academia and national scientific bodies;
  • Recognizing and supporting the role of faculty in shaping research and policy;
  • Encouraging student involvement in institutional development and national celebrations.
