Project Description

The GreenTech Horizons project fosters the dual green and digital transition by equipping higher education institutions (HEIs) with innovative learning ecosystems. The project develops a competency-oriented curriculum, enhances digital and green skills, and integrates business knowledge to prepare future professionals for sustainable economic growth.

Through cross-regional collaboration, the project connects HEIs and industry partners from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and the EU. It modernizes education by introducing modular courses, an eLearning platform, and hands-on laboratory experiences, ensuring that students gain the necessary expertise to support climate goals and digital transformation.

The project also strengthens academic-industry cooperation, ensuring that the developed competencies align with labor market needs. By promoting open access educational resources (OER), teacher training programs, and pilot initiatives across partner institutions, GreenTech Horizons drives long-term impact and capacity-building in higher education.

Key Areas of Focus

Expected Impact

The GreenTech Horizons project aims to transform education and workforce development by integrating green, digital, and business skills into higher education curricula. By fostering a competency-oriented learning ecosystem, the project will bridge skills gaps, enhance employability, and support sustainable economic growth in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia. Through innovative eLearning platforms, MOOCs, and hands-on training, GreenTech Horizons will equip students, educators, and professionals with the knowledge and tools needed for a successful twin green and digital transition.

Key impact points include:

Empowered Workforce for a Sustainable Future

Graduates with advanced green, digital, and business skills will drive sustainable economic transformation in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia.

This project will equip students and professionals with a unique blend of technical and managerial competencies, enabling them to lead the transition toward greener and more digital economies. By integrating industry-aligned curricula, modern teaching methods, and hands-on learning experiences, future professionals will be well-prepared to implement innovative solutions for sustainability challenges.

Higher education institutions (HEIs) will forge closer ties with industry, ensuring that education keeps pace with labor market demands.

The project will foster partnerships between universities and key industry players, facilitating curriculum co-design, internships, and collaborative research. This synergy will enhance the employability of graduates, provide businesses with a skilled workforce, and accelerate the adoption of sustainable and digital solutions in the private sector.

The project will contribute to the EU’s vision of a twin transition by developing region-specific strategies for sustainable growth.

By implementing competency-based education in key technological and environmental fields, the project will accelerate the transition to low-carbon economies. It will introduce best practices from Europe, tailor them to local contexts, and create a scalable model that can be replicated across similar regions, fostering sustainable development.

Project outcomes will inform policymakers and contribute to sustainable economic reforms and strategic workforce planning.

The insights gained through the project will support the development of policies that prioritize green and digital skill-building, funding for educational reform, and investment in sustainable industries. By aligning educational strategies with economic diversification goals, the project will help reduce dependence on extractive industries and foster new economic opportunities.

The project will improve quality of life through cleaner environments, enhanced job opportunities, and inclusive economic growth.

By training professionals in sustainable energy, environmental management, and digital innovation, the project will contribute to a healthier ecosystem and resilient societies. The long-term impact will be visible in reduced environmental degradation, increased energy efficiency, and a more future-proof workforce capable of adapting to the rapidly evolving global economy.
