Laying the Groundwork for Undergraduate and Graduate Programs in Artificial Intelligence
The Department of Information and Computer Sciences at the National University of Mongolia (NUM) has launched a comprehensive initiative aimed at developing new undergraduate and graduate programs in Artificial Intelligence (AI). This strategic step reflects the university’s commitment to equipping future professionals with cutting-edge knowledge and skills aligned with global technological trends.
Led by Professor N. Oyun-Erdene and a dedicated team of faculty members, the curriculum development process includes identifying educational goals, outlining core and elective courses, and ensuring a strong foundation in mathematics, computer science, and AI methodologies. Comparative analysis with international AI programs further informed the design, ensuring that the NUM program meets both national academic standards and global expectations.

Academic Collaboration and Program Approval Process
Following internal working sessions and workshops, the draft curriculum was formally presented to the Department of Information and Computer Sciences and reviewed by the DICS Program Committee. The proposal has also been evaluated by the School of Information Technology and Electronics Program Committee, receiving positive feedback for its structure and relevance.
The next step involves submitting the program to the NUM Central Program Committee, after which an official request will be sent to the National Accreditation Council to secure authorization for launching the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Artificial Intelligence (program code 061902).
This initiative not only strengthens Mongolia’s academic infrastructure in digital technologies but also positions NUM as a regional leader in AI education, research, and innovation.
